Three cattle from same herd as BSE-infected cow have entered food chain

The Agency has been informed that meat from three cows reared in the same herd as one that later developed BSE has entered the human food chain. Meat from the cow that had developed BSE did not enter the food chain.

Arsenic in rice research published

The Agency has today published results from two studies: arsenic levels in rice drinks and one on cooking methods to reduce arsenic levels in rice. As a result of the rice drink study, the Agency recommends that toddlers and young children should not have rice drinks, often known as rice milk, as a replacement for cows? milk, breast milk or infant formula.

A new handbook has been launched today, to assist local food safety inspectors in their work with diverse communities. The handbook, ?Working Effectively with Minority Ethnic Food Businesses?, has been produced as a result of a one day practical training course offered to local authorities to assist them in understanding different religious and cultural practices.

Some Rotstern Crispy Rounds withdrawn

Tiger Retail Ltd has withdrawn some Rotstern Crispy Rounds confectionery, because the product has been found to contain peanut protein, which is not mentioned on the product label. The makes the product a health risk for individuals who are allergic to peanuts. The Agency has issued an Allergy Alert.
