Peanut butter and paste contaminated with aflatoxins

Active brand peanut butter, Active brand groundnut paste and peanut butter made by Jesu Aka Ltd are contaminated with excessively high levels of aflatoxins. The Active brand groundnut paste is made from peanuts (peanuts are also known as groundnuts). The products, which are made in Ghana, and are generally sold in food stores that sell African and or African-Caribbean food.

Kestrel Foods recalls some sesame seed products

Kestrel Foods Ltd has recalled some Supervalu brand and Centra brand sesame seeds products in Northern Ireland, because of the presence of salmonella. Salmonella is a bacterium that causes food poisoning. The Agency has issued a Food Alert for Information.

Pine nuts associated with a bitter aftertaste

The Agency has received several reports over the last few months of pine nuts that have caused a bitter taste for some people who have eaten them.

The Agency today published the most recent results of a study, carried out in 2008, looking at the levels of acrylamide, and other chemicals produced as a result of food processing, in a range of UK food products.
