Vacuum packing training goes online

A new online training course about vacuum packing and modified atmosphere packing of food has been developed by the Food Standards Agency. The course aims to give local authority food law enforcement officers who are responsible for food hygiene an enhanced understanding of the vacuum packing processes, and the importance of microbiological safety in their use.

FSA Board meeting papers published

Students get guide to safe catering

Food Standards Agency Northern Ireland (FSANI) has been working with further education colleges across Northern Ireland to include its Safe Catering guide in the teaching content of catering and hospitality courses, so that students are trained in the food safety management principles of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP).

‘Broad band’ boost for Scores on the Doors

The Food Standards Agency has announced further progress on the development of the national ‘Scores on the Doors’ scheme for England, Wales and Northern Ireland, which will provide consumers with information about hygiene standards in food businesses.

Whittard of Chelsea withdraws three tea products

Whittard of Chelsea has withdrawn three tea products because they contain macadamia and almond nuts that are not mentioned on the label. If you have an allergy or intolerance to nuts you are advised not to consume these products. The Agency has issued an allergy alert.

Veterinary Residues Committee annual report published

The Veterinary Residues Committee?s (VRC) 2008 Annual Report on the surveillance of veterinary residues in food in the UK is now available online. The report details the checks that have been done for a range of residues of veterinary medicines in food.

Agency launches SFBB teaching resources for colleges

The Food Standards Agency has launched new Safer food, better business (SFBB) teaching resources for catering colleges. The resources, developed in partnership with Northampton Catering College and Highfield.co.uk are intended to promote understanding of SFBB among catering students.
