Morrisons recalls some ready-to-eat chicken

Morrisons supermarket is recalling its own brand Ready to Eat Chilled Sweet Chilli Chicken Pieces (120g) after becoming aware that some packs may contain chicken that has been undercooked. The affected product has a use-by date of 2 January 2010.

Iodine warning on soya drink

Food safety authorities in Australia and New Zealand have informed the Food Standards Agency about high levels of iodine in a soya drink called ‘Bonsoy’, which some people use as an alternative to milk. We are investigating the distribution of this product in the UK and will take action if necessary.

Pakstar Curried Chick Peas should not be eaten

Cans of Pakstar brand Curried Chick Peas have been produced on a West Yorkshire premises that has been served with a Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Order, because of food hygiene contraventions and insufficient canning controls. The Agency has issued a Food Alert for Action asking local authority food law enforcement officers to make sure the product is withdrawn from sale and destroyed.

December 2009 Scores on the Doors update

Heinz recalls some apple and pear purée baby food

Heinz is recalling from customers some Heinz 100% Apple and Pear Purée baby food with a ‘best before’ date of 11 January 2011, because of leaking product pouches. The Agency has issued a Food Alert for Information.

Members of the National Codex Consultative Committee (NCCC) are meeting prior to the ninth Session of the Codex Committee on Milk and Milk Products (CCMMP) to help establish the UK position on items under discussion, including standards for processed cheese, fermented milk and the maximum levels of annatto extracts in milk and milk products.

Asda withdraws its Southern Fried Popcorn Chicken

Asda is withdrawing its own-brand ready-to-eat Southern Fried Popcorn Chicken with a ‘use by’ date of 18 December 2009, because the product contains wheat (gluten), which is not mentioned on the product label. This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone who is allergic or intolerant to wheat or gluten.
