eatwell.gov.uk to bring you all government food advice

The Food Standards Agency is to expand its eatwell website to bring together all government information on food aimed at consumers. Advice on food safety and healthy eating will be integrated with information on a wide range of other topics relevant to consumers’ food choices, with a particular focus on environmental and wider sustainability issues.

Citizens’ forum findings on front-of-pack nutrition labelling

The Agency has published the latest report of people’s views on food labels and their awareness and understanding of front-of-pack nutrition labelling. This is part of a nationwide series of ‘citizens’ forums’ set up to establish a dialogue with the public on food.

Yesterday’s Agency open Board meeting is now available as a video-on-demand and as a podcast. The agenda included discussions of the research into the production of smoked skin-on-sheep meat (also known as ’smokies’), publication of research on ?country of origin? labelling, and the annual report to the FSA Board from the Chair of the Succession and Development Committee.

The Food Standards Agency Board has today agreed to push for a change in European Union (EU) law to permit production of smoked skin-on sheep meat for human consumption.

Imported cow aged over 30 months not tested for BSE

Divine Chocolate withdraws some dark chocolate

Divine Chocolate has withdrawn some of its Divine Dark Chocolate because the product contains milk, which is not an intended ingredient. Although the allergy advice on the product label mentions that the product ?may contain traces of milk?, the amount of milk is above what might be described as ‘trace levels’. The Agency has issued an Allergy Alert.

Morrisons recalls some seedless raisins

Morrisons has recalled its Value Seedless Raisins with ‘best before’ dates of October 2010, November 2010 and December 2010, because the product might contain small pieces of green plastic. The Agency has issued a Food Alert for Information.
