Batches of Wester Lawrenceton Farm cheeses recalled

Wester Lawrenceton Farm Ltd has recalled various batches of Carolla and Caerphilly cheese due to contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. Listeria is a bacterium that causes food poisoning. The Agency has issued a Food Alert for Information.

Some Murphy’s Draught Irish Stout withdrawn

Heineken UK has withdrawn cans of Murphy’s Draught Irish Stout with a ‘best before’ date of 31 December 2010 and a batch code of L9348, because the product has been incorrectly packaged in Murphy?s Draught Style Stout Pasteurized Beer cans. The mislabelled cans do not mention that the product contains barley gluten.

Reducing saturated fat and sugar in sweet foods

Following a public consultation in the summer of 2009, the Food Standards Agency has today recommended that food manufacturers reduce saturated fat in foods such as biscuits, cakes, buns, chocolates and added sugar in soft drinks.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) in Scotland has produced advice for the farming industry, highlighting the primary production food and feed hygiene requirements of EC Food Hygiene Regulation (852/2004) and EC Feed Hygiene Regulation (183/2005). The advice is in ‘question and answer’ format.
